Leo Tolstoy is one of the world’s greatest writers and arguably Russia’s greatest writer, surpassing even Fyodor Dostoevsky. Tolstoy wrote many famous books over his long and remarkable life, the most famous being Anna Karenina and War and Peace, which has been called “Russia’s Iliad and Odyssey.” Tolstoy happens to be my favorite writer, and War and Peace is my favorite book of all time. While I have published on the remarkable work of literature in professional venues, in this series of lectures available on YouTube I explain the main characters of War and Peace as well as summarize the meaning of the epic novel in just half an hour through an examination of the four main characters of the story: Prince Andrei Bolkonsky, Pierre Bezukhov, Nikolai Rostov, and Natasha Rostov.

* A full length article on War and Peace, written by me, served as the title for my book The Odyssey of Love. It is included as the final chapter/essay in that volume of literary essays covering Hesiod and Homer and running through 2500 years of Western literature before concluding with two chapters on Tolstoy’s epic masterpiece.
