Lectures on the Art of Peter Paul Rubens

Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish Baroque artist who is considered one of the greatest artists of the world and the finest representative of the Baroque period of art. In four short online lectures, I look at the art of Rubens exploring some of his most famous pieces in Mythology and Religion: The Fall of Phaeton, Saint George and the Dragon, The Elevation of the Cross, and Hero and Leander. Through these paintings the story of what they are represented is revealed to the listener and observer. Learning the stories behind the art and the stories that art tells is an important skill in coming to love and appreciate the great art of the Western tradition.

LECTURE ONE: INTRODUCTION TO RUBENS AND THE FALL OF PHAETON
